Performance of Services Sector

Volume Index of Services registered a growth of  6.2 per cent to 130.7 points in third quarter 2019 as compared to the same quarter of previous year.

The  main  contributors  to  the  increase  of  Services  sector  in  the  third quarter  of  2019  were  Wholesale  &  Retail  Trade, Food  &  Beverages  and  Accommodation  segment  (6.6%), followed  by Others  Services  segment  (6.3%), and  Information  &  Communication  and  Transportation  &  Storage segment  (6.2%). Seasonally  adjusted  volume  index  of  this  sector  went  up  2.6 per cent to 130.5 points  as  compared to the previous quarter.

                                                           Performance by Segment

Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation

Wholesale  &  Retail Trade, Food  &  Beverages  and  Accommodation  segment  remained  resilient  by  posting  a  growth  of  6.6 per cent compared to the same quarter of 2018. The increase was led by Food & Beverages sub-sector with  10.1 per cent and Accommodation sub-sector, 6.7 per cent. Seasonally adjusted volume index of this segment rose by  2.8 per cent as compared to the previous quarter.

Business Services and Finance

Volume index of Business Services and Finance recorded a positive growth of  5.7 per cent as compared to the same quarter of 2018. The growth was supported by Professional, Scientific & Technical and Administrative & Support Services sub-sector with 9.3 per cent. Seasonally adjusted volume index of Business Services and Finance segment increased by  3.1 per cent as against second quarter 2019.

Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage             

Volume index of Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage segment recorded  6.2 per cent as compared with the same quarter of previous year. The growth was driven by Transportation & Storage sub-sector with  6.5 per cent. Seasonally adjusted volume index in this segment went up 1.5 per cent.

Other Services

The segment rose  6.3 per cent as compared to the third quarter of 2018. This increase was stimulated by Arts, Entertainment & Recreation and Personal Services & Other Activities sub-sector with  7.8 per cent.  Meanwhile, seasonally adjusted volume index of Other Services segment grew 2.5 per cent in third quarter 2019.
