Performance of Services Sector
Volume Index of Services in third quarter 2017 registered a growth of 6.9 per cent as compared to the same quarter previous year.
The positive growth was due to the increase in segments of Information & Communication and Transport & Storage (7.7%) and Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation (7.3%). On quarterly basis, the seasonally adjusted volume index of this sector rose by 1.9 per cent.

Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation
The segment of Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation posted a positive growth of 7.3 per cent as compared with the same quarter of 2016. This increase was underpinned by sub-sectors of Wholesale & Retail Trade, 7.4 per cent and Food & Beverages, 7.3 per cent. The seasonally adjusted volume index of this segment edged up by 1.5 per cent as compared to the previous quarter.
Finance, Real Estate and Professional
In this quarter, Finance, Real Estate and Professional segment grew by 5.5 per cent as compared to the corresponding quarter of 2016. This increase was stimulated by the growth of Professional sub-sector, 10.9 per cent. The seasonally adjusted output of Finance, Real Estate and Professional segment went up by 3.0 per cent as against the second quarter of 2017.
Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage
An increase of 7.7 per cent was recorded in Information & Communication and Transport & Storage segment as compared to the third quarter of 2016. This increase was led by the positive growth of 8.9 per cent in Information & Communication sub-sector. On a quarterly basis, the seasonally adjusted volume index of Information & Communication and Transport & Storage segment rose by 1.5 per cent.
Other Services
Momentum of Other Services segment remained resilient by posting a growth of 6.5 per cent as compared with the same quarter of previous year. This growth was spurred by sub-sector of Arts, Entertainment & Recreation, 7.8 per cent and Private Education, 6.5 per cent. The seasonally adjusted output in this segment increased by 2.4 per cent as compared to the previous quarter.
