Performance of Services Sector
The index of Services registered a growth of 6.2 per cent to 147.0 points in first quarter 2017 as compared to the same quarter a year earlier.
The momentum of this segment was led by Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage (7.2%), Other Services (6.5%) and Wholesale & Retail, Food & Beverages and Accommodation (6.2%). The seasonally adjusted index of Services increased 1.7 per cent as compared to the previous quarter.

Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation
The segment of Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation grew 6.2 per cent as compared to the same quarter 2016. Resilient growth of this segment was primarily driven by Food & Beverages, 7.0 per cent and Wholesale & Retail Trade, 6.2 per cent. The seasonally adjusted index of this segment went up by 1.2 per cent as against the previous quarter.
Finance, Real Estate and Professional
The index of Finance, Real Estate and Professional segment registered a positive growth of 5.0 per cent as compared to the corresponding quarter 2016. The increase was driven by Professional (10.5%) and Real Estate (5.4%) sub-sectors. Quarter-on-quarter, the seasonally adjusted index of Finance, Real Estate and Professional segment rose 2.0 per cent.
Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage
Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage segment rose by 7.2 per cent as compared to the first quarter 2016. The growth in this segment was contributed by Information & Communication sub-sector, 8.3 per cent. The seasonally adjusted index of this segment edged up 2.1 per cent as compared to the preceding quarter.
Other Services
Year-on-year, the Other Services segment expanded by 6.5 per cent. This growth was primarily reflected by an increase of Arts, Entertainment & Recreation (7.8%) and Private Education (6.7%). In seasonally adjusted terms, Other Services segment increased 2.1 per cent as against the fourth quarter 2016.
