Performance of Services Sector
Index of Services increased by 7.0 per cent to 148.8 points in second quarter 2017 as compared to the same quarter a year earlier.
The increase was contributed by Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage (7.5%) and Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation (7.4%). The seasonally adjusted index of Services went up by 1.5 per cent as compared to the previous quarter.

Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation
Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation expanded by 7.4 per cent as compared to the same quarter 2016. This growth was spurred by Wholesale & Retail Trade (7.6%). Seasonally adjusted index of this segment rose by 2.4 per cent as against the previous quarter.
Finance, Real Estate and Professional
Index of Finance, Real Estate and Professional posted a growth of 6.1 per cent as compared to the corresponding quarter 2016. The growth was contributed by Professional sub-sectors (10.6%). Quarter-on-quarter, the seasonally adjusted index of Finance, Real Estate and Professional decreased by 0.3 per cent.
Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage
Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage segment recorded positive growth of 7.5 per cent as compared to the second quarter 2016. The growth was driven by Information & Communication sub-sector with 8.6 per cent. The seasonally adjusted index of this segment grew 1.9 per cent as compared to the preceding quarter.
Other Services
Index of Other Services grew by 6.0 per cent as compared with the same quarter of the preceding year. The growth was led by Arts, Entertainment & Recreation sub-sectors (7.7%). In seasonally adjusted terms, Other Services increased marginally 0.1 per cent as against the first quarter 2017.
