1.   MARRIAGE

 Number of marriages and Crude Marriage Rate (CMR)

 The number of marriages decreased 0.5 per cent from 215,973 (2021) to 214,824 (2022). Thus, CMR decreased from 6.7 (2021) to 6.6 (2022) per thousand population.

 The number of Muslim marriages recorded in 2022 was 168,726, decreased 4.1 per cent as compared to 176,002 (2021). CMR declined from 8.5 (2021) to 8.2 (2022) per thousand Muslim population. On the contrary,

Non-Muslim marriages increased 15.3 per cent from 39,971 (2021) to 46,098 (2022). Thus, CMR increased from 3.4 (2021) to 4.1 (2022) per thousand Non-Muslim population.


General Marriage Rate (GMR)

GMR for grooms and brides in 2022 decreased from 46.0 to 45.3 and 47.6 to 47.1 respectively. A similar trend was also observed for Muslim, whereby GMR for grooms decreased to 57.3 (2021: 60.4) and brides decreased to 59.1 (2021: 62.0). Meanwhile, GMR for Non-Muslim grooms and brides increased from 22.4 to 25.7 and 23.6 to 27.0, respectively.


Median age at marriage

The median age for grooms remained at aged 28.0 years, while for brides increased from 26.0 years (2021) to 27.0 years in 2022. The median age for Muslim grooms also increased to 28.0 years from 27.0 years, for brides remained at aged 26.0 years. The median age for Non-Muslim also increased from 30.0 years to 31.0 years for grooms and 28.0 to 29.0 years for brides. 



2. DIVORCE

Number of divorces and Crude Divorce Rate (CDR)

The number of divorces increased 43.1 per cent from 43,936 (2021) to 62,890 (2022). Thus, CDR increased from 1.4 (2021) to 1.9 (2022) per thousand population.

The number of Muslim divorces recorded in 2022 was 46,138 increased 45.8 per cent as compared to 31,650 (2021). CDR increased from 1.5 (2021) to 2.2 (2022) per thousand Muslim population.  Meanwhile, Non-Muslim divorces increased 36.4 per cent from 12,286 (2021) to 16,752 (2022). Therefore, CDR for Non-Muslim increased from 1.1 (2021) to 1.3 (2022) per thousand Non-Muslim population.


General Divorce Rate (GDR)

General Divorce Rate (GDR) at national level increased in 2022

GDR for males and females increased each from 6.1 and 6.2 to 8.7 and 8.9 in 2022, respectively. The same trend was observed for Muslims and Non-Muslim divorces.


Median age at divorce

The median age at divorce for males and females remained unchanged at 38.0 years and 35.0 years, respectively. The same trend was recorded for median age for Muslim males and females at aged 37.0 years and 35.0 years, respectively. Meanwhile, the median age for Non-Muslim males increased from 39.0 years (2021) to 40.0 years (2022) and for females remained unchanged at 36.0 years.
