Performance of Services Sector

Volume Index of Services recorded a growth of  6.7 per cent to 158.8 points in second quarter 2018 as compared to the same quarter previous year.

The momentum of this increase was driven by Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage segment  (7.6%) and Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation segment  (7.2%). The seasonally adjusted volume index of this sector increased by 1.5 per cent as compared to the previous quarter.

                           Performance by Segment

Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation

The segment of Wholesale & Retail Trade, Food & Beverages and Accommodation increased by  7.2 per cent as compared with the same quarter of 2017. This increase was supported by Food & Beverages sub-sector at  9.3 per cent. The seasonally adjusted volume index of this segment grew by  3.2 per cent as compared to the previous  quarter.

Finance, Real Estate and Professional

The  volume  index  of Finance, Real  Estate  and  Professional  segment  went  up  by  5.1 per cent  as  compared  to  the  corresponding  quarter  of  2017. This   increase  was  driven by  the  growth  in  Professional  and  Real  Estate  sub-sector  at  11.5 per cent and  5.3 per cent respectively. As compared to previous quarter, the seasonally adjusted volume index of Finance, Real Estate and Professional segment declined by  2.0 per cent.

Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage             

Information & Communication and Transportation & Storage segment registered an increase of  7.6 per cent as compared with the same quarter of previous year. This growth was spurred by Information & Communication sub-sector at  8.7 per cent. On a quarterly basis, the seasonally adjusted volume index in this segment rose by  2.2 per cent.

Other Services

Other Services segment went up by  6.5 per cent as compared to the second quarter of 2017. This increase was primarily reflected by the positive growth in Arts, Entertainment & Recreation  at  8.3 per cent. As  compared  to  previous  quarter,  the  seasonally  adjusted  volume  index  of  Other  Services  segment expanded by  1.1 per cent.
