Overview

• Pulau Pinang, Johor and Selangor accounted for 80.4 per cent of Malaysia’s total trade in August 2026.
• Malaysia’s total trade in August 2026 amounted to RM354.0 billion, with exports and imports valued at RM191.0 billion and RM163.0 billion, respectively. Pulau Pinang remained as the top exporter with a contribution of 51.1 per cent, followed by Johor (17.5%), Selangor (13.4%), Sarawak (5.4%) and W.P. Kuala Lumpur (3.2%). Pulau Pinang also recorded the largest share of Malaysia’s imports at 32.9 per cent, followed by Johor (24.5%), Selangor (21.2%), W.P. Kuala Lumpur (6.9%) and Kedah (4.4%).
• Malaysia’s exports in August 2026 increased by RM59.7 billion (+45.5%) compared with August 2025. The increase in exports was attributed to higher exports in Pulau Pinang (+RM49.2 billion), Johor (+RM6.2 billion), Selangor (+RM3.0 billion), Sarawak (+RM2.2 billion), Perak (+RM587.9 million), W.P. Kuala Lumpur (+RM426.4 million), Negeri Sembilan (+RM188.5 million) and Pahang (+RM101.6 million). 
• However, exports decreased in Perlis (-RM31.4 million), Kelantan (-RM62.5 million), Melaka (-RM128.7 million), Kedah (-RM166.8 million), W.P. Labuan (-RM333.5 million), Terengganu (-RM624.1 million) and Sabah (-RM974.1 million).
• Malaysia’s imports in August 2026 increased by RM47.5 billion (+41.1%) compared with August 2025. The increase in imports was attributed to higher imports in Pulau Pinang (+RM24.7 billion), Johor (+RM14.5 billion), Selangor (+RM3.1 billion), W.P. Kuala Lumpur (+RM2.6 billion), Kedah (+RM1.7 billion), Negeri Sembilan (+RM1.6 billion), Terengganu (+RM550.0 million), Pahang (+RM444.1 million) and Sabah (+RM22.7 million). 
• However, imports decreased in Kelantan (-RM8.4 million), Perlis (-RM25.3 million), Perak (-RM26.5 million), Sarawak (-RM51.0 million), W.P. Labuan (-RM114.9 million) and Melaka (-RM825.2 million).
