Overview

Four states reached a new record high for total trade namely Pulau Pinang, Johor, Selangor and W.P. Kuala Lumpur


  • Malaysia’s total trade for April 2026 amounted to RM336.7 billion with exports and imports recording RM182.7 billion and RM154.0 billion, respectively.
  • Exports was valued at RM182.7 billion in April 2026, increased RM49.2 billion (+36.9%) as compared to the same month of the previous year. The increase in exports was attributed to the higher exports in Pulau Pinang (+RM33.5 billion), Johor (+RM9.7 billion), W.P. Kuala Lumpur (+RM3.5 billion), Selangor (+RM2.5 billion), Sarawak (+RM490.1 million), Perak (+RM472.2 million), Terengganu (+RM404.6 million), Sabah (+RM188.3 million), Perlis (+RM26.7 million) and Negeri Sembilan (+RM25.2 million). However, exports decreased in Pahang by RM573.5 million, W.P. Labuan (-RM289.1 million), Kedah (-RM188.6 million), Melaka (-RM158.2 million) and Kelantan (-RM11.8 million).
  • Pulau Pinang remained as the top exporter with a contribution of 45.1 per cent, followed by Johor (19.7%), Selangor (14.6%), Sarawak (5.3%) and W.P. Kuala Lumpur (4.2%).
  • At the same time, imports in April 2026 increased RM25.6 billion (+20.0%) as compared to the same month in year 2025. The increase in imports was attributed by the higher imports in most states such as Johor (+RM18.6 billion), Pulau Pinang (+RM9.6 billion), Sarawak (+RM517.6 million), Perak (+RM322.5 million), Kedah (+RM294.8 million), W.P. Labuan (+RM289.1 million), Sabah (+RM211.6 million), Terengganu (+RM165.4 million), Negeri Sembilan (+RM127.0 million), Pahang (+RM58.2 million) and Perlis (+RM40.9 million). However, imports decreased in Selangor by RM2.0 billion, W.P. Kuala Lumpur (-RM1.3 billion), Kelantan (-RM27.1 million) and Melaka (-RM8.0 million).
  • Johor dominates Malaysia’s imports with a share of 28.0 per cent, followed by Pulau Pinang (25.3%), Selangor (23.4%), W.P. Kuala Lumpur (7.8%) and Kedah (4.4%).
