Overview

INTRODUCTION

This publication presents statistics on the personal services and other activities which obtained from the Annual Economic Survey 2018 for reference year 2017. Personal services and other activities comprises activities of membership organisation; repair of computers and personal & household goods; and other personal service activities. The principle statistics such as the value of gross output, value of intermediate input, value added, number of persons engaged, salaries & wages paid as well as value of fixed assets are also presented in this publication.

 

PERFORMANCE OF PERSONAL SERVICES AND OTHER ACTIVITIES SERVICES

The Personal services and other activities recorded gross output value of  RM9.0 billion in 2017 compared to RM8.1 billion in 2015 with the annual growth rate of 5.8 per cent. In line with the growth in gross output, the value of intermediate input increased by RM0.5 billion to record RM4.7 billion with the annual growth rate of 5.5 per cent, Thus resulting a value added of RM4.4 billion for the year 2017.

VALUE OF GROSS OUTPUT

The gross output value of personal services and other activities recorded RM9.0 billion with an annual growth rate of 5.8 per cent over the period of two years. Other personal service activity was the largest contributor of gross output value with RM5.8 billion (64.1%). The second largest contributor was repair of computer and personal & household goods with RM2.2 billion (24.4%) followed by activities of membership organisations with RM1.0 billion (11.5%) .

VALUE ADDED

The total value added in personal services and other activities for the year 2017 recorded RM4.4 billion with annual growth rate of 6.1 per cent  within the period of two years.The other personal service activities recorded the highest value added in 2017 which amounted to RM2.9 billion (2015: RM2.6 billion). This was followed by repair of computer and personal & household goods which recorded RM1.1 billion (2015: RM1.0 billion) and activities of membership organisations of RM0.4 billion (2015: RM0.3 billion).

NUMBER OF PERSONS ENGAGED

The number of persons engaged in these services also reported an increase of 2.8 per cent to 119,982 persons with salaries & wages paid  amounted to RM1.8 billion. Paid full-time employees recorded a total of 80,222 persons with percentage share of 66.9 per cent, as against to paid part-time employees (5,065 persons; 4.2%) and working proprietors & unpaid family workers (34,695 persons; 28.9%)
