International Investment Position

Overview

 

Malaysia’s net international investment recorded net assets position of RM42.3 billion at the end of second quarter 2017. The total financial assets position narrowed by 1.3 per cent to RM1,717.2 billion (Q1 2017: RM1,739.4 billion), while the total liabilities decreased by RM1.6 billion to RM1,674.8 billion (Q1 2017: RM1,676.4 billion). Direct Investment Abroad (DIA) position recorded RM573.5 billion at the end of Q2 2017 (Q1 2017: RM568.4 billion) and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Malaysia registered a value of RM556.7 billion (Q1 2017: RM560.9 billion).

Portfolio investment showed net liabilities position of RM318.0 billion, widened by RM30.0 billion from previous quarter. Meanwhile, the stock of other investment posted a net liabilities position of RM84.6 billion. The international reserves of Bank Negara Malaysia as at 30 June 2017 stood at RM424.8 billion (Q1 2017: RM422.1 billion).
