Overview

 

Malaysia's net international investment position at the end of December 2016 recorded a net assets position of RM81.2 billion (Q3 2016: RM26.5 billion). Total financial assets position expanded to RM1,734.9 billion and total liabilities registered RM1,653.6 billion. At the end of December 2016, Direct Investment Abroad (DIA) stock recorded RM569.4 billion (Q3 2016: RM539.8 billion) and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) stock in Malaysia accounted for RM545.6 billion (Q3 2016: RM525.5 billion).

At the end of Q4 2016, portfolio investment showed net liabilities position of RM301.0 billion from net liabilities position of RM338.1 billion registered previous quarter. Meanwhile, the stock of other investment at the end of Q4 2016 posted a net liabilities position of RM69.2 billion. The international reserves of Bank Negara Malaysia at the 31 December 2016 stood at RM424.1 billion (Q3 2016: RM404.9 billion).
