Overview

              

 

Malaysia's net international investment position as at end of March 2017 recorded a net assets position of RM63.0 billion (Q4 2016: RM70.1 billion). Total financial assets position expanded to RM1,739.4 billion and total liabilities registered RM1,676.4 billion. In the first quarter of 2017, Direct Investment Abroad (DIA) stock recorded RM568.4 billion (Q4 2016: RM566.0 billion) and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) stock in Malaysia registered a value of RM560.9 billion (Q4 2016: RM546.6 billion).

Portfolio investment showed net liabilities position of RM287.9 billion from RM307.1 billion registered previous quarter. Meanwhile, the stock of other investment posted a net liabilities position of RM81.5 billion. The international reserves of Bank Negara Malaysia as at 31 March 2017 stood at RM422.1 billion (Q4 2016: RM423.9 billion).
