Overview

Job Market Insights and My Job Profile is a quarterly release based on the job vacancies advertised online by popular private recruitment websites. The report contains principal information on job vacancies namely by type of occupation, economic activity, state, skills and field of studies. These statistics must be interpreted with caution due to data limitation as this does not reflect the entire population of job vacancies in Malaysia.


Job Vacancies Advertised Online, Fourth Quarter of 2023

The number of vacancies advertised online in the fourth quarter of 2023 recorded an increase of 32.5 per cent with 448,181 vacancies as compared to 338,305 vacancies in the third quarter of 2023. During this quarter, there were 85,814 establishments offering job vacancies as compared to 77,499 in the third quarter 2023. On a year-on-year basis, the number of job vacancies registered a three digit growth of 119.2 per cent as against 77.9 per cent in Q3 2023. In the fourth quarter of 2023 monthly, the highest number of job vacancies advertised online was in December 2023, which was 172,777 vacancies. Meanwhile, there are 137,449 and 137,955 vacancies in October and November 2023.


Job Vacancies Advertised Online by Occupation

As for job vacancies advertised online based on occupation category, almost half of the vacancies are concentrated in the Professionals field with 48.9 per cent or 218,947 vacancies in Q4 2023. This was followed by 18.5 per cent (82,950) in the category of Managers while Technicians & Associate Professionals accounted for 17.0 per cent (76,284). On further disaggregation of the hottest job during the quarter, there were higher demand for Advertising & Marketing Professionals, Administrative Associate Professionals, Managing Directors & Chief Executives, Accountants & Auditors, and Software Developers.


Job Vacancies Advertised Online by Economic Activity

In the economic sector, most of the job vacancies in Q4 2023 were in the Services sector with a share of 50.9 per cent or 228,148 vacancies. Observing the job vacancies by economic activity, Wholesale and Retail Trade dominated the vacancies with 15.9 per cent or 71,154 jobs. Manufacturing recorded a total of 32,976 vacancies (7.4%), followed by Administrative & Support Service Activities at 32,113 vacancies (7.2%) and Professional, Scientific & Technical Activities with 27,757 vacancies (6.2%).


Job Vacancies Advertised Online by State

Concerning the job vacancies advertised online at the state level, all states except Perlis showed an increases in vacancies as compared to the third quarter 2023. W.P. Kuala Lumpur posted the highest vacancies at 81,574 or 18.2 per cent. On the same note, another state with high vacancies was Selangor with 43,673 (9.7%), followed by Johor at 19,822 (4.4%). Meanwhile, the state of Perlis recorded the lowest vacancy, with only 79 vacancies.
