Overview

Job Market Insights and My Job Profile is a quarterly release based on the job vacancies advertised online by popular private recruitment websites. The report contains principal information on job vacancies namely by type of occupation, economic activity, state, skills and field of studies. These statistics must be interpreted with caution due to data limitation as this does not reflect the entire population of job vacancies in Malaysia.


Job Vacancies Advertised Online, Third Quarter of 2023

The number of job vacancies advertised online surged 29.5 per cent in the third quarter of 2023 (Q2 2023: 23.5%) to record 338,305 vacancies (Q2 2023: 261,231). During this quarter, there were 77,499 establishments that reported job vacancies, a notable increase from 70,571 establishments reported in the preceding quarter. Further disaggregation by month, depicted most of the job vacancies were posted in September 2023 with 136,180 vacancies. Additionally, there were 107,183 and 94,942 vacancies in July and August 2023, respectively.

 

Job Vacancies Advertised Online by Occupation

In terms of the distribution of job vacancies by occupation, Professionals accounted the largest share during the quarter with 48.6 per cent or 164,411 vacancies. This was followed by Technicians and Associate Professionals (18.5%), Managers (15.7%) and Service and Sales Workers (6.8%). Consequently, the most in-demand jobs during the quarter were Advertising and Marketing Professionals (26,247), Managing Directors and Chief Executives (18,081), Administrative Associate Professionals (16,369), Accountants and Auditors (14,044) and Administrative Professionals (11,078).

 

Job Vacancies Advertised Online by Economic Activity

Concerning the analysis of job vacancies by economic activity, it was observed that  Wholesale and Retail Trade dominated the vacancies with 19.8 per cent or 66,931 jobs. Manufacturing recorded a total of 33,015 vacancies (9.8%), followed by Administrative and Support Service Activities at 29,179 vacancies (8.6%) and Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities with 22,248 vacancies (6.6%).

 

Job Vacancies Advertised Online by State

Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur continued to record the highest vacancies during the quarter with 89,335 positions (26.4%). Selangor ranked second with a share of 8.5 per cent or 28,649 vacancies. This was followed by Johor representing 5.1 per cent or 17,326 vacancies. On the contrary, Perlis registered the lowest number of vacancies with 125 advertisements in Q3 2023.
