Overview

Job Market Insights and My Job Profile is a quarterly release based on the job vacancies advertised online by popular private recruitment websites. The report contains principal information on job vacancies namely by type of occupation, economic activity, state, skills and field of studies. These statistics must be interpreted with caution due to data limitation as this does not reflect the entire population of job vacancies in Malaysia.

 

Job Vacancies Advertised Online, First Quarter of 2024

The number of job vacancies advertised online in the first quarter of 2024 recorded a decrease of 12.5 per cent, with 392,054 vacancies compared to 448,181 vacancies in the fourth quarter of 2023. In this quarter, a total of 76,532 establishments offered job vacancies as compared to   85,814 establishments recorded in the fourth quarter of 2023.

 

Job Vacancies Advertised Online by Occupation

Based on job category, nearly half of the job vacancies advertised online in Q1 2024 are concentrated in the Professional category with 47.6 per cent or 186,538 vacancies. In addition, the Managers category accounted for 17.3 per cent (67,951 vacancies), followed by Technicians and Associate Professionals with 16.9 per cent (66,066 vacancies). Further disaggregation of the hottest job during the quarter revealed higher demand in fields such as Advertising & Marketing Professionals, Managing Directors & Chief Executives, Administrative Associate Professionals, Accountants & Auditors and Administrative Professionals.

 

Job Vacancies Advertised Online by Economic Activity

In terms of job vacancies by economic sector, most vacancies in Q1 2024 were recorded in the Services sector, representing 32.4 per cent or 127,097 vacancies. Observing the job vacancies by economic activity, the Wholesale and Retail Trade sector dominated with 7.7 per cent or    30,209 jobs. At the same time, the Administrative & Support Service Activities sector recorded 22,334 vacancies (5.7%), followed by Professional, Scientific & Technical Activities with 21,925 vacancies (5.6%) and Manufacturing with 16,681 vacancies (4.3%).

 

Job Vacancies Advertised Online by State

Based on job vacancy by state in the first quarter of 2024, Selangor recorded the highest number of vacancies with 27,521 or 7.0 per cent. W.P. Kuala Lumpur also recorded a high number of vacancies at 26,878 (6.9%), followed by Johor with 8,374 (2.1%). However, W.P. of Labuan recorded the lowest number of job vacancies, with only 84 vacancies.
