Value of gross output of economic sectors registered an annual growth rate of 4.1 per cent to RM3,103.9 billion

Economic sectors in 2019 recorded gross output value of RM3,103.9 billion compared to RM2,981.2 billion in 2018, with an annual growth rate of 4.1 per cent. In line with the growth in the gross output, the value of intermediate input also increased to RM1,841.0 billion, that is grew 3.9 per and contributing a value added of RM1,262.8 billion for the year of 2019. The number of persons engaged also increased 2.8 per cent to 10,046,726 persons as compared to 9,770,583 persons in 2018. Meanwhile, the salaries & wages paid in year 2019 amounted to RM331.3 billion as against RM313.6 billion in 2018.

The main contributor for value of gross output was Manufacturing sector which amounted RM1,378.0 billion with a share of 44.4 per cent. This was followed by Services sector with RM1,271.7 billion (41.0%) and Construction sector of RM212.5 billion (6.8%). These three sectors contributed 92.2 per cent to the value of gross output of all economic sectors.

Economic sectors in 2019 recorded a value added of RM1,262.8 billion compared to RM1,209.2 billion in 2018 with an annual growth rate of 4.4 per cent. Services sector as the main contributor to value added recorded RM693.8 billion with a share of 54.9 per cent. This was followed by Manufacturing sector at RM319.2 billion (25.3%) and Mining & quarrying sector with RM129.1 billion (10.2%).
