Overview
- Deaths increased by 29.1 per
cent (39,616 deaths), from 136,109 deaths in 2010 to 175,725 deaths in 2019.
- The crude death rate (CDR)
recorded an increase from 5.0 deaths in 2010 to 5.4 deaths per 1,000 population in 2019.
- Ischaemic heart diseases was
the principal causes of death in Malaysia for the period 2010 to 2019.
- Ischaemic heart diseases and
Pneumonia were the principal causes of death in 2019 for both males and
females, recording 11,399 and 5,836 deaths, respectively.
- Ischaemic heart diseases was
the principal causes of death among the Malay, Chinese and Indians in 2019,
while Other Bumiputera recorded Pneumonia as the principal causes of death.
- For the year 2019, age
groups 0–14 years and 65 years and over recorded Pneumonia as the principal
causes of death, while the 15–64 years age group recorded Ischaemic heart
diseases as the principal causes of death.
- 11 states recorded Ischaemic
heart diseases as the principal causes of death in 2019, namely Kedah, Perak,
Pulau Pinang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Selangor,
W.P. Putrajaya and W.P. Kuala Lumpur. Meanwhile, four states recorded Pneumonia
as the principal causes of death, while another state, namely W.P. Labuan,
recorded Cerebrovascular diseases as the principal causes of death.
