The Unit Price Index of Building Materials

  • The unit price index of sand recorded an increase in June 2026, with month-on-month changes ranging from 0.5 per cent to 6.4 per cent in all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. The highest increase in the price index for this material was recorded in Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis (6.4%), followed by Johor (6.1%) and Kuching (4.3%).
  • The price index of aggregates also recorded an increase in June 2026, ranging from 0.1 per cent to 5.6 per cent as compared to the previous month. The highest increase in the price index for this material was recorded in Perak (5.6%), followed by Pahang (3.7%) and Johor (3.5%).
  • The price index of steel registered a slight decrease in June 2026, with month-on-month changes ranging from negative 0.1 per cent to negative 1.2 per cent across all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. The highest decrease in the price index for this material was recorded in Perak (-1.2%), followed by Sandakan (-0.8%) and Kota Kinabalu (-0.7%).
  • The unit price index of cement remained unchanged in June 2026, in all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
  • An annual comparison for the period of June 2025 and June 2026 has indicated that the unit price index for steel recorded an increase ranging from 0.5 per cent to 8.6 per cent involving most areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. The highest increase in the unit price index for steel was observed in Perak (8.6%), followed by Johor (6.0%) and Pahang (4.8%).
  • The year-on-year comparison of the unit price index of cement increased between 0.9 per cent to 7.2 per cent in June 2026 as compared to the same month last year across all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. The highest increase was observed in Kuching and Miri, at 7.5 per cent respectively, followed by Pahang (6.7%).
  • In addition, the year-on-year comparison between June 2025 and June 2026 showed that the unit price index of sand increased by between 1.4 per cent and 23.9 per cent across all regions in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

Average Price of Selected Building Materials

  • The average price per unit of steel, consisting of mild steel round bars and Mycon 60 high tensile deformed bars, recorded a slight decrease (-0.3%) with an average price of RM3,507.10 per metric tonne as compared to the previous month (May 2026: RM3,517.50 per metric tonne).
  • The average price of Ordinary Portland cement also showed a slight decrease (-0.9%) with an average price of RM25.70 per 50 kg bag, as compared to April 2026 (RM25.95 per 50 kg bag).
