The Unit Price Index of Building Materials
- The unit price index of sand recorded an increase in April 2026, ranging from 0.4 per cent to 14.5 per cent in all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. The highest increase in the price index for this material was recorded in Terengganu & Kelantan (14.5%), followed by Pahang (14.4%) dan Miri (14.1%).
- The unit price index of steel also recorded an increase in April 2026, ranging from 0.1 per cent to 6.1 per cent as compared to the previous month. The highest increase in the price index for this material was recorded in Perak (6.1%), followed by Johor (2.7%) and Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan (2.4%).
- The price index of cement registered an increase in April 2026, with month-on-month changes ranging from 0.1 per cent to 6.0 per cent across all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. The highest increase in the price index for this material was recorded in Sibu (6.0%), followed by Johor (3.9%) and Miri (3.5%).
- The unit price index of aggregates also showed an increase in April 2026, with month-on-month change ranging from 0.5 per cent to 16.4 per cent in all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
- An annual comparison for the period of April 2025 and April 2026 has indicated that the unit price index for sand recorded an increase ranging from 2.8 per cent to 18.6 per cent involving most areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. The highest increase in the unit price index for sand was observed in Miri (18.6%), followed by Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis and Terengganu & Kelantan (16.0%), respectively.
- The year-on-year comparison of the unit price index of cement increased between 1.0 per cent to 7.5 per cent in April 2026 as compared to the same month last year across all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. The highest increase was observed in Kuching (7.5%), followed by Perak (6.9%) and Miri (6.7%).
Average Price of Selected Building Materials
- The average price per unit of steel, consisting of mild steel round bars and Mycon 60 high tensile deformed bars, recorded an increase of 2.3 per cent with an average price of RM3,504.20 per metric tonne as compared to the previous month (March 2026: RM3,426.80 per metric tonne).
- The average price of Ordinary Portland cement also showed an increase (1.3%) with an average price of RM25.90 per 50 kg bag, as compared to March 2026 (RM25.55 per 50 kg bag).
