Environmental Protection Expenditure (EPE) increased 0.3% in 2014 to RM2.244 billion

The Report on The Survey of Environmental Protection Expenditure 2015 presents the statistics on the environmental protection expenditure for the reference year 2014. The agriculture, forestry & fishing; mining & quarrying; manufacturing; construction and services sectors are those covered in this survey. The selected establishments in this survey using a single stage stratified random sampling method for gathering information on operating and capital expenditure incurred to protect the environment.

In 2014, a total of  RM2.244 billion has spent for environmental protection which increased by  0.3 per cent as compared to 2013.

The operational expenditure amounted to  RM1.365 billion whereas capital expenditure amounted to  RM0.879 billion.  Manufacturing sector was the highest contributor for EPE at  RM1.619 billion. This was followed by the services sector at  RM0.327 billion and the mining & quarrying sector at  RM0.193 billion.

Three main types of expenditure for environmental protection consists of pollution prevention, pollution abatement & control and waste management amounted to  RM0.764 billion,   RM0.643 billion and  RM0.505 billion respectively.

Environmental protection expenditure for air media recorded more than  50 per cent from the total expenditure for media (surface water, air, groundwater and noise).
