Overview

Total energy from natural inputs in 2021 recorded 107,282 ktoe with 103,170 ktoe (96.2%) from non-renewable energy and 4,112 ktoe (3.8%) from renewable energy. The main contributors to energy sources were natural gas at 75,820 ktoe (70.7%), followed by crude oil 25,389 ktoe (23.7%) and hydropower  2,676 ktoe (2.5%).

The total supply and use of energy products in the Malaysia’s economy in 2021 recorded 206,844 ktoe. Domestic production comprising the Mining & quarrying, Manufacturing, and Services sectors dominated the supply of energy products in the economy at 153,462 ktoe (74.2%) compared to imports of 53,382 ktoe (25.8%). Mining & quarrying sector was the highest producer of energy products at 88,793 ktoe (42.9%), followed by Manufacturing sector at 49,138 ktoe (23.8%) and Services sector at 15,531 ktoe (7.5%). The main energy products supplied in 2021 included natural gas 67,507 ktoe (32.6%), petroleum products 41,129 ktoe (19.9%) and crude oil  31,930 ktoe (15.4%).

The use of energy products consist of energy transformation and final use, which recorded 96,536 ktoe (46.7%) and 110,308 ktoe (53.3%) respectively. Energy products used domestically contributed 153,784 ktoe (74.3%) as compared to exports amounted 57,555 ktoe (25.7%).
