Sales of Manufacturing sector increased by 9.1 per cent in July 2026 to RM177.3 billion

The sales value of Manufacturing sector in July 2026 rose 9.1 per cent year-on-year to RM177.3 billion. The growth was mainly driven by the Electrical & electronics products sub-sector which registered a robust growth by 17.8 per cent. This positive performance continues to be bolstered by the Food, beverages & tobacco sub-sector, which grew by 3.9 per cent (June 2026: 2.2%); alongside 3.6 per cent increase in the Petroleum, chemical, rubber & plastic sub-sector. In comparison by month-on-month, sales value increased 0.2 per cent (June 2026: RM177.0 billion).

The export-oriented industry recorded 9.9 per cent year-on-year sales value growth in July 2026, thereby contributing 72.2 per cent of the total sales. This performance was anchored by an increase in the Manufacture of computer, electronic & optical products industry at 19.0 per cent. This growth was further supported by the Manufacture of machinery & equipment n.e.c., which rose by 17.8 per cent (June 2026: 9.9%), while the Manufacture of coke & refined petroleum products expanded by 3.3 per cent. Sales value of the export-oriented industries decreased 1.0 per cent as compared to the previous month.

The domestic-oriented industries moderated slightly to 7.2 per cent year-on-year in July 2026. This performance was driven primarily by the Manufacture of basic metals industry, which sustained a double-digit growth of 14.9 per cent (June 2026: 10.6%). This upward trend was complemented by the Manufacture of food processing products industry, which improved to 9.6 per cent (June 2026: 7.0%); as well as the Manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers & semi-trailers, which rose by 5.0 per cent. Based on month-on-month basis, the domestic-oriented industries increased 3.2 per cent.

The number of employees in the Manufacturing sector was recorded at 2.4 million in July 2026, increasing by 1.1 per cent year-on-year. The increase was mainly supported by the Food, beverages & tobacco sub-sector which grew 2.2 per cent; followed by 1.9 per cent growth in Non-metallic mineral products, basic metal & fabricated metal products (June 2026: 1.6%); and 1.3 per cent in Electrical & electronics products sub-sectors. Furthermore, the number of employees in this sector augmented 0.1 per cent (June 2026: -0.2%) on month-on-month comparison.

The salaries & wages paid in the Manufacturing sector also posted an expansion of 2.8 per cent, amounted to RM8.55 billion in July 2026. As compared to the amount recorded in the prior month, the salaries & wages paid declined 0.5 per cent. Subsequently, the sales value per employee registered RM73,188 (7.9%), while the average salaries & wages per employee was RM3,527, improved by 1.7 per cent year-on-year.

Summarising the performance of Manufacturing sector, the cumulative sales value for the first seven months of 2026 recorded RM1.20 trillion, representing 7.6 per cent increase (January – July 2025: 3.7%). The number of employees rose by 1.1 per cent to 2.4 million persons; accompanied by 2.7 per cent growth in salaries & wages paid, which amounted to RM60.1 billion. Besides that, the sales value per employee stood at RM496,792, increased 6.4 per cent.
