Overview

The Export Unit Value Index increased by 2.5 per cent in April 2026, contributed mainly by an increase in the Mineral Fuels index.

Exports

The export unit value index  increased by 2.5 per cent in April 2026, attributed to increases in the index of mineral fuels (+9.7%), animal & vegetable oils & fats (+4.1%) and machinery & transport equipment (+0.4%). The export volume index also rose by 19.9 per cent in line with increases in the indices of chemicals (+35.0%), mineral fuels (+22.4%) and machinery & transport equipment (+21.0%). Meanwhile seasonally adjusted export volume index increased by 20.4 per cent from 180.1 points to 216.8 points.

Referring to the annual comparison, both the exports unit value index and the volume index expanded by 5.9 per cent and 29.3 per cent respectively.

Imports

The import unit value index also increased by 6.7 per cent in April 2026, resulting from the increases in the indices of mineral fuels (+52.8%), animal & vegetable oils & fats (+2.6%) and chemicals (+0.4%). Meanwhile, the import volume index also increased by 16.1 per cent in April 2026 as compared to the previous month, driven by the increases in the indices of mineral of fuels (+41.2%), manufactured goods (+23.0%) and machinery & transport equipment (+13.7%). The seasonally adjusted import volume index increased by 14.2 per cent from 162.6 points to 185.7 points. 

A year-on-year comparison showed that the import unit value index increased by 5.5 per cent, while volume index edged up by 13.7 per cent.

Terms of trade

Malaysia's terms of trade declined by 3.9 per cent month-on-month to 119.6 points in April 2026, due to a decrease in the index of mineral fuels (-28.2%).  Meanwhile, Malaysia terms of trade increased by 0.3 per cent year-on-year from 119.1 points in April previous year.
