Malaysia’s International Investment Position
(IIP) registered net assets of RM68.3 billion as at
the end of second quarter 2026 (Q1 2026: net liabilities RM67.8 billion). Total
financial assets registered higher value of RM2.82 trillion while total
liabilities posted RM2.75 trillion as at the end of second quarter 2026.
Malaysia’s Direct Investment Abroad
(DIA) position surged by RM35.8 billion to reach
RM624.9 billion as compared to RM589.1 billion as at the end of last quarter.
The Services sector was the main contributor to DIA position (RM440.1 billion),
followed by Mining & quarrying (RM106.2 billion) and Agriculture (RM45.5
billion). The top three destinations for DIA were Singapore with a value
RM155.6 billion or 24.9 per cent, followed by Indonesia (RM61.4 billion; 9.8%)
and United Kingdom (RM59.5 billion; 9.5%).
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) position increased to RM1,114.9 billion as at the end of second quarter
2026 (Q1 2026: RM1,113.8 billion). Services sector remained the largest
recipient with a value of RM630.9 billion or 56.6 per cent, followed by
Manufacturing (RM384.9 billion; 34.5%) and Mining & quarrying (RM67.8
billion; 6.1%). The top three countries for FDI position were Singapore (RM307.6
billion; 27.6%), Hong Kong (RM153.0 billion; 13.7%) and Japan (RM107.8 billion;
9.7%).
