FIVE STATES REGISTERED A CONTRIBUTION OF 84.6 PER CENT OF TOTAL TRADE IN SEPTEMBER 2024
- Malaysia’s total trade for September 2024 amounted to RM234.8 billion with exports and imports recorded RM124.0 billion and RM110.8 billion, respectively.
- Exports was valued at RM124.0 billion in September 2024, decreased RM319.5 million (-0.3%) as compared to the same month of the previous year. The decrease in exports was attributed to the lower exports in most states such as Selangor (-RM2.0 billion), Kedah (-RM1.5 billion), Negeri Sembilan (-RM769.4 million), Pahang (-RM501.1 million), W.P. Labuan (-RM353.9 million), Sarawak (-RM347.3 million), Melaka (-RM313.2 million), Terengganu (-RM193.5 million), W.P. Kuala Lumpur (-RM172.8 million) and Perlis (-RM22.4 million). However, exports increased in Pulau Pinang by RM3.6 billion, Johor (+RM1.5 billion), Perak (+RM1.0 billion), Sabah (+RM187.0 million) and Kelantan (+RM28.1 million).
- Pulau Pinang remained as the top exporter with 37.5 per cent share, followed by Johor (20.6%), Selangor (15.6%), Sarawak (6.5%) and W.P. Kuala Lumpur (4.5%). At the same time, imports in September 2024 increased RM10.9 billion (+10.9%) as compared to the same month in 2023. The increase in imports was attributed by the higher imports in most states such as Johor (+RM4.7 billion), Pulau Pinang (+RM4.2 billion), W.P. Kuala Lumpur (+RM3.1 billion), Selangor (+RM2.6 billion), Perak (+RM210.0 million), Kedah (+RM201.5 million) and Terengganu (+RM123.6 million). However, imports decreased in Melaka by RM1.6 billion, Negeri Sembilan (-RM1.1 billion), Pahang (-RM464.9 million), Sarawak (-RM177.3 million), W.P. Labuan (-RM107.7 million), Kelantan (-RM27.4 million), Sabah (-RM25.2 million) and Perlis (-RM13.5 million).
- Selangor dominates Malaysia’s imports with a share of 26.5 per cent, followed by Johor (23.3%), Pulau Pinang (22.6%), W.P. Kuala Lumpur (9.5%) and Kedah (5.6%).
