Overview

This publication presents statistics on the Water Supply; Sewerage, Waste Management, and Remediation Activities which obtained from the Economic Census 2023 for reference year 2022. The sub-sector of Water Supply; Sewerage, Waste Management, and Remediation Activities encompasses six main activities which are Water collection, treatment, and supply; Sewerage; Waste collection; Waste treatment and disposal; Material recovery; and Remediation activities and other waste management services.

In 2022, the Water supply; sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities registered a total of 1,008 establishments with an annual growth rate of 3.5 per cent compared to 2015. The value of gross output amounted to RM18.9 billion, increased by 6.3 per cent annually from 2015. In line with the growth of gross output value, the value of intermediate input also increased to record RM9.0 billion, with an annual growth rate of 4.6 per cent, resulting in value added of RM10.0 billion in 2022 (2015: RM5.9 billion).

This services recorded 59,535 number of persons engaged in 2022 (2015: 49,162 persons). During the same period, the salaries and wages increased to reach RM2.4 billion in 2022 (2015: RM1.4 billion). Meanwhile, the value of fixed asset owned by establishment for the Water Supply; Sewerage, Waste Management, and Remediation Activities in 2022 amounted to RM11.2 billion (2015: RM8.0 billion), with an annual growth rate of 4.9 per cent.
