CAPITAL STOCK STATISTICS 2018

Capital stock statistics for year 2015 to 2018 has been realigned with the rebasing of Gross Domestic Product to year 2015. In 2018, Gross Capital Stock posted a value of RM4.8 trillion with a growth of 4.4 per cent. Net Capital Stock (NKS) which portrays the wealth of Malaysia’s economy increased 4.2 per cent to attain RM3.1 trillion.

NKS BY KIND OF ECONOMIC ACTIVITY

NKS continued to grow at a moderate pace of 4.2 per cent in 2018 compared to 4.5 per cent in 2017. The growth was contributed by Services, Manufacturing and Mining & quarrying sectors. The value of fixed assets in Services sector was the largest compared to other economic activities with a value of RM2.0 trillion and registered a share of 66.9 per cent. Mining and quarrying sector accounted for 18.0 per cent, while Manufacturing sector was 12.0 per cent (Exhibit 1).

NKS BY TYPE OF ASSETS

Structure remained as the largest contributor to NKS with a share of 78.8 per cent supported by expenditure on non-residential and other structure. Machinery and equipment was the second largest contributor with 12.6 per cent. In terms of growth, Structure registered a slower pace of growth with 4.5 per cent while Machinery & equipment and Other assets registered 3.2 per cent and 2.6 per cent respectively (Exhibit 2).
