Overview

The publication of Bumiputera Statistics 2023 presents statistics at national and state level for the year of 2015 to 2023, which covers social and economic fields.


Total Bumiputera population in 2023 registered a growth of 1.1 per cent to record 21.3 million. Males Bumiputera outnumbered females with 10.8 million compared to 10.5 million.


The sex ratio for overall Bumiputera population was 102 males for every 100 females.


Total fertility rate for Bumiputera in 2022 declined to 2.0 children for every woman aged 15-49 years.


Bumiputera boy and girl born in 2023 is expected to live up to 71.5 years and 76.3 years, respectively.


Ischemic Heart Disease was the principal cause of death in 2022 with 12,855 cases or 16.0 per cent of the medically certified deaths, followed by Pneumonia (10,642), Cerebrovascular Diseases (6,218), COVID-19 Infection (due to) (3,198), and Transport Accidents (2,902).


Bumiputera labour force strengthened by 4.1 per cent to reach a total of 9.6 million in 2022, of which 5.8 million were males and 3.9 million were females.


The Bumiputera labour force participation rate remained on an increasing trend to record 67.1 per cent with male and female at 80.0 per cent and 54.1 per cent, respectively.


Bumiputera unemployment rate decreased to 4.0 per cent with 3.9 per cent for male and 4.2 per cent for female.


In 2022, Bumiputera graduates increased 4.9 per cent to record 3.8 million, of which 1.7 million were males and 2.2 million were females.


Bumiputera graduate labour force participation rate recorded 85.4 per cent with male and female recorded 88.3 per cent and 82.9 per cent, respectively.


The unemployment rate for Bumiputera graduates was reduced to 4.1 per cent with 3.7 per cent male and 4.4 per cent female.


Residential property in 2022 recorded a significant increase in number and value of transaction with 121,997 transactions and RM34.7 billion transfer value. Commercial property recorded 3,774 transactions with a transfer value of RM2.1 billion.
