SERVICES PRODUCER PRICE INDEX (2010=100)

FIRST QUARTER 2023

• The Services Producer Price Index (SPPI) averaged 114.7 points in first quarter 2023, increased 3.4 per cent as compared to 110.9 in the same quarter of the preceding year.

• Most subsectors recorded an increase of prices in this quarter, particularly Accommodation and Food & Beverage Service Activities, with 8.3 per cent (Q4 2022: 8.0%) attributed to the increase in Restaurants & Mobile Food Service Activities (9.8%). The Transportation subsector increased 6.5 per cent (Q4 2022: 5.3%), contributed by Passenger Air Transport (25.6%).

• Meanwhile, the Arts, Entertainment & Recreation (Q4 2022: 5.3%) and Education (Q4 2022: 1.1%) indices recorded an increase of 1.1 per cent, respectively, owing to the Other Amusement & Recreation Activities (1.9%) and Secondary Education (1.9%). He also explained that other subsectors which recorded an increase were Professional (0.5%) and Health (0.4%). Nevertheless, the index of Real Estate Activities and Information & Communication remained unchanged. 

• Quarter-on-quarter, SPPI rose 0.3 per cent as compared to 0.4 per cent recorded in the previous quarter. 

• The increase was due to the Accommodation and Food & Beverage Service Activities (1.3%), Education (0.5%), Transportation (0.3%), Health (0.2%) and Professional (0.1%) indices. Meanwhile, the index of Arts, Entertainment & Recreation recorded a decrease of negative 1.7 per cent. Index of Real Estate Activities and Information & Communication remained unchanged.
