Foreign affiliates in Malaysia contributed 17.1 per cent to Malaysia’s economy, recorded a value added of RM323.1 billion in 2024.

A total of 3,230 foreign affiliates operating in Malaysia have generated a value added of RM323.1 billion in 2024, increased by 3.9 per cent as compared to RM318.5 billion in the previous year. Manufacturing remained as the main contributing sector with a value added of RM165.4 billion, followed by Services and Mining & quarrying sectors.

Foreign affiliates in Malaysia employed 983,512 persons with paid compensation of employees at RM60.0 billion. Both exports and imports by foreign affiliates in Malaysia increased to record RM529.2 billion and RM463.8 billion, respectively. The foreign affiliates in Malaysia were mainly from the Asia region with 2,074 affiliates as compared to 1,975 affiliates in 2023, followed by Europe and Americas regions with 673 and 412 affiliates, respectively.
