The Unit Price Index of Building Materials
- The monthly comparison showed an increase in the unit price index of steel between 0.2 per cent to 0.9 per cent for almost all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak in November 2024 as compared to the previous month. The highest increase was in Kota Kinabalu (0.9%), followed by Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan (0.5%) and Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis (0.3%).
- The unit price index of cement and sand remained unchanged for almost all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak in November 2024. Meanwhile, the unit price index of steel & metal sections registered a decline between negative 0.3 per cent to negative 4.4 per cent for almost all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak in November 2024 as compared to the previous month.
- An annual comparison for the period of November 2023 and November 2024 indicated that the unit price index of cement increased between 0.2 per cent to 2.8 per cent for almost all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. The highest increase was recorded in Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka dan Negeri Sembilan (2.8%), followed by Pahang (2.7%) dan Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis (2.2%).
- Nevertheless, an annual comparison of the unit price index of steel recorded a decrease between negative 0.6 per cent to negative 3.6 per cent in November 2024 as compared to the same month last year for almost all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
Average Price of Selected Building Materials
- The average price of cement (Ordinary Portland) slightly increase with an average price of RM23.25 per 50 kg bag as compared to October 2024 (RM23.22 per 50 kg bag).
- The average price per unit of steel, consisting of mild steel round bars and Mycon 60 high tensile deformed bars recorded a decrease (-0.1%) with an average price of RM3,628.90 per metric tonne as compared to the previous month (October 2024: RM3,631.58 per metric tonne).
