The Unit Price Index of Building Materials
- The unit price index of sand recorded an increase between 2.3 per cent to 15.8 per cent for almost all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak in July 2024 as compared to the previous month. The highest increase was in Terengganu & Kelantan (15.8%), followed by Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan (4.7%). Apart from that, the unit price index of aggregates also registered an increase between 0.2 per cent to 9.0 per cent for almost all areas in July 2024 as compared to the previous month.
- The unit price index of cement recorded an increase between 0.2 per cent to 0.6 per cent for almost all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. The highest increase was in Pahang (0.6%), followed by Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis (0.5%) and Perak (0.4%).
- The monthly comparison showed a slight decrease in the unit price index of steel for almost all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak in July 2024. There was a slight decrease for these materials price index in Perak (-1.9%), followed by Kota Kinabalu (-1.5%) and Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis (-0.2%).
- An annual comparison for the period of July 2023 and July 2024 showed that the unit price index of cement increased between 0.1 per cent to 3.8 per cent for all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. The highest increase was recorded in Selangor, W.P. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka & Negeri Sembilan (3.8%), followed by Pulau Pinang, Kedah & Perlis (2.4%), Pahang and Tawau (2.2%) respectively.
- An annual comparison of the unit price index of steel recorded an increase between 0.1 per cent to 4.4 per cent in July 2024 as compared to the same month last year for almost all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
Average Price of Selected Building Materials
- The average price of cement (Ordinary Portland) recorded a marginal increase (0.4%) with an average price of RM23.20 per 50 kg bag as compared to June 2024 (RM23.10 per 50 kg bag).
- The average price per unit of steel, consisting of mild steel round bars and Mycon 60 high tensile deformed bars recorded a slight decrease (-0.1%) with an average price of RM3,726.37 per metric tonne.
