Services Statistics Accommodation 2015

Overview

 

INTRODUCTION

This report presents statistics on accommodation services comprising hotels (including resort hotels), budget hotels, apartment hotels, chalet and rest houses/ guest houses/ hostels/ bed & breakfast. The statistics presented were compiled  from the Survey of Services Establishment conducted in 2015 for reference  year 2014.

NUMBER OF PERSONS ENGAGED BY CATEGORY OF WORKERS

The number of persons engaged in 2014 was 112,670 persons, of which 104,770 persons (93.0%) were paid full-time employees. Paid part-time employees comprised 5,860 persons (5.2%) and working proprietors, active business partners and unpaid family workers were 2,040 persons (1.8%).

For paid full-time employees, technical and supervisory recorded the highest total number of persons engaged of 51,246 persons (45.5%) followed by category of clerical and related occupations (17.6%), general workers (16.5%) and managerial, professional and executive  (13.4%) (Chart 1).

 

PERFORMANCE BY STATE

The highest gross output and value added were recorded in W.P. Kuala Lumpur with RM3.6 billion (29.9%) and RM2.1 billion (31.4%). The second highest was registered by Selangor with gross output of RM1.6 billion (13.4%) and value added, RM0.8 billion (12.0%). This was followed by Sabah, with the gross output RM1.0 billion (8.2%) and value added was RM0.6 billion (8.4%) as shown in  Chart 2.

 

In terms of salaries & wages and number of paid employees in 2014, W.P. Kuala Lumpur registered the highest salaries & wages paid and number of workers, 27.0 per cent and 23.1 per cent respectively. This was followed by Selangor with the salaries & wages, 13.8 per cent and 10.9 per cent for the number of persons engaged (Chart 3). 

 

DISTRIBUTION BY OUTPUT SIZE GROUP

Establishments with gross output of RM1 million to RM50 million was the main contributor with RM7.0 billion (57.9%) and value added RM3.7 billion (56.4%) for reference year 2014. The lowest contribution in terms of gross output and number of persons engaged was registered in the output size group of establishment less than RM1 million as shown in Chart 4.
