PERFORMANCE OF ELECTRICITY, GAS, STEAM AND AIR CONDITIONING SUPPLY
In 2014, the value of gross output registered RM55.5 billion, intermediate input RM29.9 billion and value added RM25.6 billion. The number of persons engaged was 42,913 persons with total salaries & wages paid amounted to RM2.8 billion. Meanwhile, the value of fixed assets was RM111.7 billion as shown in Table 1.
GROSS OUTPUT AND NUMBER OF PERSONS ENGAGED BY INDUSTRY GROUP
The electric power generation, transmission and distribution was the highest contributor to the value of gross output of RM51.2 billion (92.3%) with a number of persons engaged amounting to 36,678 persons (85.5%). It was followed by manufacture of gas; distribution of gaseous fuels through mains at RM3.5 billion (6.3%) with 590 employees (1.4%). Meanwhile, steam and air conditioning supply posted the value of gross output of RM0.8 billion (1.4%) with 5,645 persons engaged (13.1%) as illustrated in Table 2.
NUMBER OF PERSONS ENGAGED BY CATEGORY AND SEX
A total of 42,913 persons were engaged in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply industry. This comprises of paid full-time employees with 42,699 persons (99.5%), paid part-time employees 176 persons (0.4%) and working proprietors, active business partners and unpaid family workers 38 persons (0.1%) as depicted in Table 3.
Male workers dominated in this industry with 35,526 persons (82.8%) as compared to female workers with 7,387 persons (17.2%) as shown in Chart 1.
SALARIES & WAGES OF PAID FULL-TIME EMPLOYEES BY CATEGORY OF OCCUPATION
The plant & machine operators and assemblers1 recorded the highest number of employees with 12,418 persons (29.1%) and salaries & wages received was RM483.4 million (17.3%). This was followed by technicians and associate professionals which accounted for 29.0 per cent or 12,371 persons.
The managerial, professionals and executives category registered 6,530 employees (15.3%) with salaries & wages of RM826.5 million (29.7%). This category of workers also earned the highest annual average salaries & wages per workers of RM126,577 followed by technicians and associate professionals with RM83,173 (Table 4).
