Producer Price Index

Overview

 

Producer Price Index (2010=100) by Sector (MSIC 2008)

Year-on-year  comparison  showed  that the Producer Price Index (PPI) for local production went  up  at  a  slower pace of 0.1 per cent in October 2016. The highest increase was recorded by Agriculture, forestry & fishing index (+16.9%) followed by Electricity & gas (+2.1%) and Water supply (+1.5%). In contrast, the index for Mining and Manufacturing decreased by 6.1 per cent and 0.9 per cent respectively. [Table I]

The PPI for local production inclined by 0.7 per cent in October 2016 compared to September 2016. This was due to increases in four sectors namely, Mining (+10.2%), Electricity & gas (+0.8%), Manufacturing (+0.5%) and Water supply (+0.3%). However, the index for Agriculture, forestry & fishing recorded a decrease of 4.1 per cent.

 

The PPI for local production by stage of processing (SOP) inclined by 0.7 per cent in October 2016 compared to the previous month. This inclination was due to increases in the indices for Crude materials for further processing (+1.5%) and Intermediate materials, supplies and components (+0.8%). Meanwhile, the index for Finished goods remained unchanged. [Table II]

As compared with the same month a year ago, the PPI for local production by SOP for October 2016 increased by 0.1 per cent. This was due to an increase in index for Crude materials for further processing (+6.6%). However, index for Intermediate materials, supplies and components decreased by 2.0 per cent, while the index for Finished goods remained unchanged.
