PRODUCER PRICE INDEX (2010=100) BY SECTOR (MSIC 2008)
The Producer Price Index (PPI) local production edged up to 11.7 per cent year-on-year in July 2021 from 11.5 per cent recorded in June 2021. The Mining index rose 57.7 per cent due to higher prices of natural gas and continuous increase in prices of crude oil commodity. The Agriculture, forestry and fishing index recorded double digit growth of 31.5 per cent (June 2021: 29.8%) attributed by the increase in prices of fresh fruit bunches and other commodities. In addition, the increase in Manufacturing index was contributed by higher prices of primary commodities and construction-related commodities (7.1%). In terms of utility indices, Water supply and Electricity & gas supply each rose 1.3 per cent and 0.2 per cent.
On month-on-month comparison, the PPI local production registered a marginal increase of 0.6 per cent in July 2021 as compared to 0.2 per cent in the previous month. This positive growth was due to the Mining index which grew by 3.9 per cent, followed by the indices of Agriculture, forestry & fishing and Manufacturing which increased by 2.2 per cent and 0.2 per cent respectively. In addition, the indices of Electricity & gas supply and Water supply declined by 0.2 per cent.

PRODUCER PRICE INDEX BY STAGE OF PROCESSING
In July 2021, the index of Crude materials for further processing increased 35.8 per cent as opposed to 39.2 per cent recorded in the previous month. Similarly, the index of Intermediate materials, supplies & components also increased 10.5 per cent. However, the index of Finished goods registered a decrease of 0.4 per cent.
The same trend can be seen in terms of monthly comparison where the index of Crude materials for further processing and Intermediate materials, supplies & components increased 2.3 per cent and 0.6 per cent respectively. Meanwhile, the index of Finished goods decreased 0.8 per cent.
