Overview

INTRODUCTION

Malaysian Well-being Index (MyWI) is developed to measure levels of rakyat’s well-being from an economic and social perspective. MyWI comprises of two sub-composites, namely economic well-being and social well-being.

MYWI’S OVERALL ACHIEVEMENT

Overall, performance of MyWI increased 0.6 per cent in 2019 to 121.0 points as compared to 120.3 points in 2018. The increase was driven by the growth in economic well-being which is 2.3 per cent. The components that experienced the highest growth are working life (4.4%), followed by transport (3.9%) and education (2.8%). However, social well-being sub-composite index showed decline of  0.6 per cent. (Table 1)

Based on the index points, economic well-being analysis shows that the transport component recorded the highest index at 139.6 index points in 2019, followed by the education component (133.2 index points) and communications (130.9 index points). In terms of social well-being, the entertainment and recreation component recorded the highest index at 132.5 index points, followed by public safety (132.3 index points) and governance (122.7 index points). The Family Index has yet to improve registering index of less than 100.
