MALAYSIA INPUT-OUTPUT TABLES 2021
Malaysia’s Input-Output (I-O) Tables for 2021 present updated tables based on the I-O Table 2015. The tables provide comprehensive insights regarding the flow of goods and services within the economy. The tables portray the economic performance, the relationship between producers and consumers and the interdependence between industries.
The
Malaysian supply and use registered RM4.6 trillion in 2021, up from RM4.1
trillion in 2020, with a growth rate of 13.2 per cent. The growth in 2021
signifies a gradual recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic as the Malaysian
economy reopened.
Summarising the 2021 performance on the supply side, the
increase was propelled by domestic production which valued at RM3,607.3 billion
with a growth of 10.6 per cent year-on-year followed by imports at RM981.9
billion (growth of 25.4%).
In terms of supply side contribution, the domestic
production held a substantial share at 78.0 per cent in 2021, followed by
imports at 21.2 per cent and net taxes on products 0.8 per cent.
Looking at the use side, final use which comprise of domestic, and exports contributed 54.7 per cent (2020: 53.9%), while
intermediate use posted 45.3 per cent (2020: 46.2%).
The final use rose 15.0 per cent year-on-year from
RM2,201.2 billion to RM2,530.8 billion in 2021, supported by exports (a growth
of 25.2%) and domestic final use (a growth of 8.2%). Additionally, intermediate
use grew by 11.0 per cent, reaching RM2,097.0 billion in 2021 (2020: RM1,888.5
billion).
