Malaysia's Export and Import prices edged up by 0.1 per cent and 0.3 per cent in February 2025, respectively mainly contributed by Mineral Fuels
Exports
The export unit value index edged up by 0.1 per cent in February 2025 as compared to the previous month. This increase was primarily driven by increments in the index of mineral fuels (+2.5%), food (+0.7%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (+0.6%). However, the export volume index decreased by 3.8 per cent in line with the decrement in the index of mineral fuels (-12.4%), animal & vegetable oils & fats (-5.0%) and machinery & transport equipment (-4.7%). The seasonally adjusted export volume index up by 2.3 per cent from 159.2 points to 162.8 points.
Referring to the annual comparison, the export unit value index and export volume index went up by 2.8 per cent and 3.3 per cent, respectively.
Imports
The import unit value index increased by 0.3 per cent in February 2025, contributed by the rise in the index of mineral fuels (+2.0%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (+0.4%) and food (+0.1%). Nevertheless, the import volume index down by 11.6 per cent in February 2025 as compared to the previous month, contributed by the decrement in the index of manufactured goods (-17.9%), machinery & transport equipment (-15.9%) and miscellaneous manufactured articles (-11.4%). The seasonally adjusted import volume index went down by 2.0 per cent from 212.9 points to 208.7 points.
The year-on-year comparison showed that the import unit value index slipped by 1.4 per cent and import volume index rose by 7.0 per cent.
Terms of trade
Malaysia’s terms of trade deflated 0.2 per cent month-on-month to 118.2 points in February 2025, driven by the decrease in the index of animal & vegetable oils & fats (-2.0%), machinery & transport equipment (-0.5%) and manufactured goods (-0.1%). Meanwhile, Malaysia’s terms of trade climbed 4.2 per cent year-on-year from 113.4 points in February previous year.
