Overview

ICT USE BY INDIVIDUALS, MALAYSIA

In 2018, percentage of individuals in Malaysia aged 15 years and above using Internet was 81.2 per cent, increased by 1.1 percentage points compared to 80.1 per cent in 2017. Percentage of individuals using computer also increased 0.7 percentage points from 69.8 per cent in 2017 to 70.5 per cent in 2018. Meanwhile, 97.9 per cent of individuals were using mobile phones in 2018 compared to 97.7 per cent in 2017.

MAIN ACTIVITIES OF INTERNET USE

The most popular Internet activities by the Internet user were participating in social networks (96.5%), finding information about goods or services (83.1%), downloading images, movies, videos or music; playing or downloading games (81.7%), downloading software or applications (76.5%) and sending or receiving  e-mails (74.8%).

ICT ACCESS BY HOUSEHOLDS, MALAYSIA 

Percentage of households access to Internet increased 1.3 percentage points to 87.0 per cent in 2018 compared to 85.7 per cent in 2017. Households access to computer decreased 2.4 percentage points from 74.1 per cent in 2017 to 71.7 per cent in 2018. Percentage of households access to mobile phone also increased 0.1 percentage points to 98.2 per cent in 2018 as compared to 98.1 per cent in 2017.
