GROSS FIXED CAPITAL FORMATION ROSE BY 9.6 PER CENT TO RECORD RM386.4
BILLION IN 2025
Malaysia’s Gross Fixed Capital Formation (GFCF) at current prices for
2025 amounted to RM431.8 billion (2024: RM397.2 billion) while at constant
prices recorded the value of RM386.4 billion, increased of 9.6 per cent as
compared to 12.1 per cent in the previous year. The growth was mainly driven by
the better performance of Services, Manufacturing and Agriculture activities.
Fixed investment by Private sector continuously led the growth, while Structure
remained the main driver for type of assets. The share of GFCF to Gross
Domestic Product (GDP) increased to 22.2 per cent from 21.3 per cent.
GFCF BY KIND OF ECONOMIC ACTIVITY
GFCF in Services activity continued its double-digit growth
recording 11.3 per cent (2024: 13.8%), supported by a stronger performance of
Finance, insurance, real estate and business services (9.6%) and Transportation
& storage and information & communication (13.7%).
GFCF in Manufacturing activity moderated to 8.8 per cent after
registering a double-digit growth of 11.8 per cent in the previous year. The
performance was driven by Electrical, electronic & optical products and
transport equipment which recorded 9.7 per cent (2024:15.8%). Moreover, the
Petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products (9.1%) and Non-metallic
mineral products, basic metal and fabricated metal
products (8.1%) also contributed to this increase.
Agriculture rose 3.5 per cent (2024: 3.3%) supported by Livestock and fishing which recorded 10.5 per cent while Construction activity increased by 4.2 per cent (2024: 4.6%). Meanwhile, Mining and quarrying activity contracted by 1.7 per cent in 2025, reversing from a growth of 2.9 per cent in 2024.
GFCF BY TYPE OF ASSETS
Structure remained as the major contributor to GFCF by type of assets
with share of 52.3 per cent rose 11.1 per cent in 2025 (2024: 15.5%).
Furthermore, the acquisition of fixed assets in ICT equipment and other
machinery & equipment remained its double-digit growth at 12.2 per cent in
2025 (2024:14.6%), followed by Intellectual property products which increased
by 3.2 per cent (2024: 3.0%) in 2025.
GFCF BY SECTOR AND KIND OF ECONOMIC ACTIVITY
Malaysia’s investment contributing 77.3 per cent GFCF in Private
sector, increased by 9.4 per cent from 12.4 per cent in 2024. Similarly, Public
sector also showed an upward trend, recording an increase of 10.3 per cent in
2025, contributing 22.7 per cent share.
Services and Manufacturing activities were the main contributor to the GFCF for both Private and Public sectors. In Private sector the share of Services activity stepped-up to 66.7 per cent (2024: 65.7%) while Manufacturing activity posted a share of 22.5 per cent (2024: 22.6%). The remaining activities made-up 10.8 per cent of the total Private GFCF. In Public sector, Services activity recorded a share of 80.6 per cent while Manufacturing activity at 9.5 per cent. Meanwhile, GFCF in Mining & quarrying activity comprised of 9.1 per cent in 2025.
