Overview
- The
number of live births for the third quarter of 2023 decreased 2.8 per cent from
113,506 births in the third quarter of 2022 to 110,354 births. Males babies
outnumbered females with 57,260 births as compared to 53,094 births for
females.
- Selangor
recorded the highest live births with 20,648 births (18.7%) while Wilayah
Persekutuan Labuan recorded the lowest (375 births: 0.3%). Mothers aged 30-39
years recorded the highest live births in the third quarter 2023 which was
54,451 (49.3%), followed by the age of 20-29 years (44.0%), 40 years and over
(4.7%) and age less than 20 years (2.0%).
- A
total of 46,646 deaths was recorded in the third quarter 2023, a decrease of 10.0
per cent as compared to the third quarter 2022 (51,841 deaths). The number of
deaths recorded for males were 26,520 while females 20,126 deaths.
- Selangor
recorded the highest number of deaths with 7,217 deaths (15.5%) while Wilayah Persekutuan
Putrajaya was the lowest with 72 deaths (0.2%). In terms of age, the number of
deaths for aged 60 years and over recorded the highest number of deaths at
32,417 deaths (69.5%), followed by age 41-59 years (20.8%), age 15-40 years
(7.2%) and age 0-14 years (2.5%).

Malaysia’s population in the third quarter 2023 was estimated at 33.5
million, increased by 1.8 per cent as compared to third quarter 2022 (32.9
million). Males population increased from 17.2 million to 17.5 million as
compared to the third quarter 2022 while females increased from 15.7 million to
16.0 million in the same period. The overall sex ratio of population was 110
males per 100 females while sex ratio for Citizens was 103 males per 100
females.
