Overview

• A total of 90,726 births were recorded in the second quarter of 2026, a decrease of 6.1 per cent as compared to the second quarter of 2025. This comprised 46,953 male babies and 43,773 female babies. Sex ratio at birth was 107 males for every 100 females. Mothers aged 30-39 years recorded the highest live births with 47,693 births (52.6%), followed by mothers aged 20-29 years (39.7%), 40 years and over (5.9%) and mothers aged less than 20 years (1.8%). 
• A total of 49,827 deaths were recorded in the second quarter 2026, increased 0.6 per cent as compared to the second quarter 2025 (49,552 deaths). The number of deaths recorded for males were 28,390 while 21,437 deaths for females. Mortality sex ratio was 132 males for every 100 females. Population aged 60 years and over recorded the highest number of deaths with 35,525 deaths (71.3%), followed by 41-59 years (19.9%), 15-40 years (6.9%) and 0-14 years (1.9%). 
• Malaysia’s total population was estimated at 34.4 million as compared to 34.2 million in the second quarter 2025 with a growth of 0.5 per cent. The total population composition in second quarter comprised 31.0 million (90.2%) Citizens and 3.4 million (9.8%) Non-citizens. Males population increased to 18.0 million from 17.9 million in the second quarter 2025 and females rose to 16.4 million from 16.3 million in the same period. The overall sex ratio of population was 110 males for every 100 females while sex ratio for Citizens was 102 males for every 100 females. The composition of old population (65 years and over) increased from 8.0 per cent to 8.4 per cent in the second quarter 2026. Meanwhile, young age population (0-14 years) recorded a decrease from 21.6 per cent to 21.2 per cent. The working age population (15-64 years) remained at 70.4 per cent during the same period.
