INTRODUCTION

This publication presents statistics on administrative and support services resulted from the Economic Census undertaken in 2016 for reference year 2015. Administrative and support services encompass of rental & leasing activities; employment activities; travel agency, tour operator & reservation service activities; security & investigation activities; services to buildings & landscape activities; and office administrative & other business support activities.

PERFORMANCE OF ADMINISTRATIVE AND SUPPORT SERVICES

The census results showed that there were 18,432 establishments operated in administrative and support services compared to 10,768 establishments in 2010 with annual growth rate of 11.3 per cent.

Value of gross output generated for this services amounted to RM27.1 billion. Within the period of 2010 and 2015, the value of gross output has increased by RM11.5 billion with annual growth rate of 11.6 per cent. In line with the value of gross output, value added for  administrative  and  support  services  recorded  an increase  of  13.8 per cent  per annum with  a  value  of  RM10.5 billion.

Number of persons engaged in administrative and support services are 173,692 of which 159,454 persons or 91.8 per cent are paid full-time employees. Working proprietors & unpaid family workers were 10,556 persons (6.1%) while 3,682 persons (2.1%) were paid part-time employees. For the period of 2010 to 2015, number of persons engaged recorded an increase of 58,769 persons, registering annual growth rate of 8.6 per cent. Meanwhile, total salaries & wages paid in 2015 was RM4.0 billion, with annual growth rate of 16.1 per cent.

WOMEN-OWNED ESTABLISHMENTS

In 2015, there were 2,541 women-owned establishments in administrative and support services which comprised 13.8 per cent of the total establishments with annual growth rate of 10.9 per cent.
