The ACE: Navigating Digital Frontier for Smart Government program provided exposure to AI, digital transformation, and cybersecurity through industry attachments, visits to over 20 leading companies in China, lectures at ZTE University for industry and technology updates, and classes at Xidian University a top AI university in China. This program underscored the critical need for DOSM to embrace cutting-edge technologies such as AI, machine learning, and large language models, alongside establishing robust infrastructure, developing skilled personnel, and prioritising data security to produce timely and high-quality official statistics. The program highlighted the immense potential of diverse new data sources for DOSM. To remain future-ready, DOSM must invest in advanced analytics capabilities and ensure cybersecurity resilience. The importance of Generative AI and large language models was a key focus, demonstrating their transformative role in improving the accuracy, timeliness, and quality of official statistics. This experience provides a strategic direction for DOSM to modernise and excel in the digital era.
