Malaysia’s Industrial Production Index (IPI) increased by 2.3 per cent in September 2018
The Industrial Production Index (IPI) increased by 2.3 per cent in September 2018 as compared with the same month of the previous year. The growth in September 2018 was supported by an increase in the index of Manufacturing (4.8%) and the index of Electricity (4.2%). Meanwhile, the index of Mining registered a decline of 6.2 per cent (August 2018: -4.6%).
The Manufacturing sector output increased by 4.8 per cent in September 2018 after recording a growth of 4.3 per cent in August 2018. The major sub-sectors which recorded an increase in September 2018 were: Electrical and Electronic Equipment Products (5.5%), Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber and Plastic Products (3.8%) and Food, Beverages and Tobacco Products (6.9%).
The Mining sector output recorded a decline of 6.2 per cent in September 2018 as compared to the same period of the previous year. This decline was due to the decrease in the Natural Gas index (-6.2%) and the Crude Oil index (-6.3%).
The Electricity output increased by 4.2 per cent in September 2018 following an increase of 4.0 per cent in August 2018.
Data for September 2018 is provisional. The data will be updated based on the latest available figures and subsequently published in the October 2018 publication
