The sales value of the Manufacturing sector amounted to RM148.0 billion in January 2023, rose modestly by 6.5 per cent as compared to 8.8 per cent growth in the preceding month. The continuous positive momentum was fortified by the double-digit growth in Transport equipment & other manufactures (14.0%) and Petroleum, chemical, rubber & plastic products (10.1%) sub-sectors. The moderate performance was also in line with the deceleration in exports of manufactured products during the month. A similar trend was recorded in the domestic-oriented industries’ sales value which moderated to 5.6 per cent from 7.7 per cent growth in the preceding month.

There were 2.34 million persons engaged in the Manufacturing sector in January 2023, increased by 3.0 per cent as against 2.27 million persons registered a year ago  (December 2022: 3.4%).
