Malaysia’s Manufacturing sales grew by 5.7 per cent to RM72.4 billion in March 2019
Malaysia’s Manufacturing sales grew by 5.7 per cent in March 2019 to register at RM72.4 billion as compared to RM68.5 billion reported a year ago. The year-on-year growth registered in sales value in March 2019 was driven by the increase in Food, Beverages and Tobacco Products (8.8%), Petroleum, Chemical, Rubber and Plastic Products (8.4%) and Transport Equipment and Other Manufactures Products (7.5%).
Total employees engaged in the Manufacturing sector in March 2019 was 1,087,760 persons, an increase of 1.8 per cent or 19,644 persons as compared to 1,068,116 persons in March 2018. Salaries & wages paid amounted to RM4,060.5 million, went up 5.1 per cent or RM197.1 million in March 2019 as against the same month of the preceding year.
The sales value per employee grew by 3.8 per cent to record RM66,539 as compared with the same month in 2018. Meanwhile, the average salaries & wages per employee was RM3,733 in March 2019.
The sales value of the Manufacturing sector in the first quarter of 2019 registered a growth of 6.1 per cent to RM210.6 billion as compared to the same period of 2018. The number of employees engaged during the period grew by 1.8 per cent to register 1,087,760 persons while salaries & wages paid posted an increase of 7.0 per cent to RM12.2 billion. The sales value per employee during the reference period rose by 4.1 per cent to record RM193,615.
