Natural Rubber (NR) production decreased by 3.6 per cent in January 2023 (29,451 tonnes) as compared to December 2022 (30,556 tonnes). Year-on-year comparison showed that the production of NR decreased by 39.3 per cent (January 2022: 48,546 tonnes). The production of NR in January 2023 for Malaysia was mainly contributed by smallholders sector (84.2%) as compared to estates sector (15.8%).
Total stocks of NR in January 2023 decreased by 3.4 per cent to 194,553 tonnes as compared to 201,360 tonnes in December 2022. Rubber processors factory contributed 90.7 per cent of the stocks followed by rubber consumers factory (9.2%) and rubber estates (0.1%).
Exports of Malaysia's NR amounted to 40,867 tonnes in January 2023, decreased 16.3 per cent as against December 2022 (48,797 tonnes). P.R. China remained as the main destination for NR exports which accounted 41.2 per cent of total exports in January 2023 followed by Turkiye (5.4%), Germany (5.1%), the United States of America (3.6%) and Brazil (2.7%).
Analysis of the average monthly price showed that Latex Concentrated recorded an increase of 6.8 per cent (January 2023: 502.05 sen per kg; December 2022: 470.21 sen per kg) while Scrap increased by 0.6 per cent (January 2023: 463.84 sen per kg; December 2022: 461.20 sen per kg). Prices for all Standard Malaysian Rubber (S.M.R) increase between 1.7 per cent to 6.7 per cent.
