On a month-on-month (m-o-m) basis, in July 2017, the export unit value index declined by 0.2% to 111.4 points. This was mainly attributed to animal & vegetable oils & fats (-2.6%) and mineral fuels (-1.6%). Meanwhile, the export volume index recorded increased 7.8% to 132.7 points which was led by mineral fuels (+23.0%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (+16.0%) and chemicals (+12.7%).In seasonally adjusted terms, the export volume index registered an increase of 10.4%.
In July 2017, the import unit value index recorded an increase of 0.1% to 114.7 points, month-on-month (m-o-m), which was led by to mineral fuels (+0.5%), machinery & transport equipment (+0.3%) and chemicals (+0.2%). Meanwhile, the import volume index also increased 11.7% to 139.8 points. This decrease was led by mineral fuels (+40.6%) followed by chemicals (+9.1%) and machinery & transport equipment (+7.7%). In seasonally adjusted terms, the import volume index recorded an increased 8.6%.
Terms of trade
Malaysia’s terms of trade recorded a decline of 0.3% to 97.1 points when compared with Jun 2017. Meanwhile, a rise of 1.9% was recorded year-on-year basis.
